"Sounding the Alarm of Apathy"

14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. 15 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.

Ephesians 4:14-15 (NLT)

APATHY is defined as a lack of feeling, emotion, interest or concern.

Edmund Burke said, “The only thing necessary for evil to triumph in the world is that good men do nothing.”

WHERE DOES APATHY COME FROM?

1. Spiritual immaturity.

Ephesians 4:14 (NLT) 14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth.

2. Cultural depravity.

Titus 1:9 (CEV) They must stick to the true message they were taught, so their good teaching can help others and correct everyone who opposes it.

3. Emotionally weary.

How Do We Push Against Apathy?

Ephesians 4:15 (NLT) 15 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church

1. Grow in Christ.

2. Know God’s truth.

  • How we make decisions:
  1. PERSONAL: preferences or what YOU want.
  2. CULTURAL: popularity or what MAJORITY wants.
  3. BIBLICAL: passages of scripture or what GOD wants.

Romans 12:2 (NLT) Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

3. Show God's love.
